Thyroid and its Connection to the Throat Chakra

Updated: Jun 7, 2023

The thyroid is wrapped around your trachea and is the function that controls growth, development, and metabolism. The thyroid relates heavily with the throat chakra as it deals with communication not only through the endocrine system but the nervous system. The thyroid is supported by a mineral found only in soil and plants called iodine. Iodine in conjunction with thyroglobulin (hormones naturally produced by the body) produces the hormones needed to metabolize cholesterol. When iodine is missing from the diet because of a lack of nutrition found in fruits and vegetables, cholesterol can become an issue as it increases in the liver and quite naturally affects the function of the heart. Underproductive thyroid produces fatigue, sensitivity to colds, weight gain, hair thinning, constipation, muscle weakness, heavy menstrual cycles, depression, slow heart rate, memory impairment, and an enlarged thyroid. Overproduction can occur when given an obscene amount of iodine at one time or when a growth or tumor is developed because of the overproduction of thyroglobulin without enough iodine which creates a blockage in the thyroid function.

An over-productive thyroid causes nervousness, anxiety, mood swings, inability to sleep, itchy skin rashes, weight loss, problems with your eyes, and hair loss. Ironically the throat chakra deeply relates to how we transmit information inside and outside of the body for instants over or under-active throat chakra will display poor communication, inability to stand up for self, lack of self-control in expression, excessive talking, or not speaking enough when necessary.

A healthy throat chakra will display clear and effective communication, healthy work or social relationships, capacity for higher thinking, concentration, and confidence in the way others receive you. The throat chakra is close to the heart chakra and closely affects the heart just as the thyroid glands do because the thoughts, desires, and feelings of the heart are relayed through communication. In short, once you heal the heart it will show throughout your communication. This is so with the thyroid also once you heal the thyroid the heart is healed through the metabolization of cholesterol.
